Overview

The extinct volcano of Kilimanjaro is one of the world's most recognizable peaks, rising dramatically above the East African plains. The impressive snow-capped summit commands awe-inspiring views of this magnificent landscape. The expedition travels through one of Africa's best-known game reserves and climbs through five ecosystems. Of the Seven Summits, Kilimanjaro is the least technically difficult to climb. However, at over 19,000 ft, it is still a tough ascent and trekkers need to be in good physical condition. Located in Tanzania, Kilimanjaro is the highest free-standing mountain in the world at 5,895 m (19,341 ft). It has three volcanic cones: Kibo (summit, 19,341 ft), Mawenzi (16,893 ft), and Shira (13,000 ft). Uhuru Peak is the highest point. We climb the Machame Route, which follows the 'Climb High, Sleep Low' philosophy of good acclimatization. We descend into a river gorge before climbing back up to the Shira Plateau, and on another day ascend to 15,200 ft before descending to Barranco Camp at 12,960 ft. Pre-trip training support and mental coaching are included — something no other guide company offers.
